Lukas Oakley: County Councillor

A strong advocate for the people of Paris, the environment, and the future of our community

About Lukas

Lukas Oakley was elected as one of the two Ward Councillors for the County of Brant Ward 2 on October 24th, 2022. Lukas has lived in the County of Brant since 2003, spending the majority of that time in the town of Paris. Despite career pressures to move to the Greater Toronto Area or Kitchener/Waterloo, Lukas' love for the natural beauty of the Grand and the Nith rivers kept him in the County, now living  in the Flats of Paris with his wife Bryn and corgi Luna.

Lukas pursued a chemistry education at the University of Guelph; going on to work in a variety of roles using those skills at Terrapure Environmental and Epitome Genetics. Lukas has been in a variety of management and advisory positions at these companies as an Information Technology Manager and Product Manager. He has been and continues to be an active volunteer in progressive provincial and federal politics, sitting as the current President of the Provincial Brantford-Brant NDP.

Whether it be fishing in the Grand River or walking Luna through Barker’s Bush, Lukas loves taking advantage of the natural amenities the County of Brant offers. A drive to protect our natural beauty, ensure development is sustainable and puts people first, and make Council more transparent brought the then 26-year-old Lukas into municipal politics in 2022. With a grassroots, youth-powered campaign behind him, Lukas won the election in Ward 2 and became the County of Brant’s youngest Councillor. In office, Lukas looks forward to working with his peers to build a more open, sustainable, and welcoming County of Brant.
